OUR HISTORY
A Journey of Faith and Blessing
Since its founding in 1989, IPC Mayur Vihar has remained steadfast in its mission to welcome all people on a spiritual journey grounded in the Word of God. The church has continually taken bold steps of faith, embraced the arts for His Kingdom, and celebrated lives transformed by God’s love. Just as our history is rooted in faith, our future will continue to stand on the foundation of worship and the teachings of our Lord.
1989-1991: The Beginning
In 1989, Pastor K Joy recognized the need for a Bible-centered, life-giving church in Mayur Vihar as local believers had been traveling to South Delhi for worship. He, along with his family and a few faithful believers, established IPC Mayur Vihar on March 26, 1989, at his residence in Mayur Vihar Phase II. Given Pastor Joy’s extensive gospel outreach travels, Pastor Johnson Chacko was appointed as the minister-in-charge.
1991-1994: A Big Vision and a Prayerful Purchase
With growing membership, Pastor K Joy arranged for the purchase of a DDA flat in Gazipur in the church’s name, where worship services were held. During this period, the church pursued a vision of spreading the gospel far and wide. Pastor Sunny George later took on the role of minister-in-charge, furthering the church’s outreach and growth.
1994-1995: Establishing in Vinod Nagar
As the congregation continued to expand, a new location was sought. In September 1994, a 235 sq. yard plot at F-17, East Vinod Nagar, Delhi, was acquired. Pastor Joy laid the foundation stone on October 23, 1994, with construction managed by the Church Committee under Br. Koshy Mathew. The Gazipur flat was sold to fund this project, and worship was temporarily moved to the homes of church members. The new building was dedicated on May 13, 1995, marking a significant milestone in the church’s journey, supported by generous donations from Pastor Joy and church members.
1996-2014: Building Expansion Project
To better serve a growing community, the church building was expanded by adding three additional floors over time. The first floor was completed in 1996 and serves as the parsonage, guest house, and church office. The second and third floors, constructed in 2008, were dedicated by the General President of The Indian Pentecostal Church of God, Pastor K C John, and the President of IPC Delhi State, Pastor K Joy. The second floor houses the IPC Delhi State office and the Peniel Bible Training Centre, while the third floor serves as an auditorium for worship.
2015 – Present
Since 2015, the church has prioritized mission work, youth and children’s activities, outstation outreach, and charitable initiatives. The IPC Delhi State operates its office, a Bible training center, and a library, facilitating a variety of spiritual activities at the church, district, and state levels. Additionally, the church emphasizes fostering fellowship among members through organized events such as picnics, tours, get-togethers, family conferences, youth conferences, and Vacation Bible School (VBS).
